They say the best place to start is the beginning so here we go…
Hi!
My name is Ruth. Aside from the usual ups and downs, compromises and misunderstandings, I’ve been happily married with my one and only for thirty years. We have two wonderful children and two small fur babies. I love spending time with my husband and especially enjoy our most recent activity, after dinner walks. Raising our kids and being a stay at home wife and mother for thirteen years was such a special gift and blessing. I am forever grateful for the opportunity, and even the sacrifices we made as a couple, that offered me the opportunity to make all of those priceless memories with our children.
Always eager to learn and grow, I enjoy reading non-fiction and children’s picture books-and I love to share what I’ve learned. I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree in English Literature many moons ago, and have since acquired several certifications and certificates including Pre-School Teacher, Health Coach, Reiki Practitioner and Spiritual Counselor.
Let us begin…
I did it! Never thought I would, but I went back to Weight Watchers! Being a certified health coach and helping others is a breeze, but taking care of myself...putting myself first...what a challenge...reasoned...even doctors see other doctors, so I decided to take my own sage advice, and take care of me. The truth is, it’s the same for all of us –we need to begin with one small step and continue our journey one step at a time. Simple, yes, Easy-no way! We know what we have to do “Should” do, but in reality when our partner gets upset, or the kids don’t listen or someone pushes one of those buttons that is so deep inside our being and yet, we keep stuffing it further down, we turn to whatever it is that gives us that instant gratification, unconditional feeling of love, acceptance, pleasure, joy… call it what you like. In reality it is merely a coping strategy created to distance ourselves from facing our fear or feelings. It keeps us stuck in the problem, which perpetuates the merry-go-round.
It’s so important to find the things that are real - lift us up, breathe life into us, help not harm us, and bring us to another level of being, knowing or understanding. So, I suppose my lesson was to discover, or remember, what feeds my soul without a million calories. What soothes me, consoles, accepts and loves me unconditionally? And will never let me down? For me this is my faith. Ever present. Ever willing. Always near. All I need to do is turn within myself. Like Dorothy, I had the power all along, and so do you!
When I feel down or alone there always seems to be some sort of message that appears with the perfect timing to make me smile. The key is to be open to receiving it. Whether it is a song, a cloud, a penny or a quarter. Some messages come on the soft caress of a breeze, a call from a friend, even a rain drop. For me, they are all signs that God--the universe, the creator, the Holy Spirit--is near and loves me. I hope you have something that is always there to lift you up, support, guide and love you.
Thanks for joining me today on my new adventure. I hope you’ll continue to follow along with me each week as I share bits of my world, interests and passions. And I hope you’ll be inspired, begin taking better care of yourself, become more mindful of your daily choices and maybe even find something worth sharing with a friend that might make a difference in their life.
Blessings today and always,
Ruthie
